The news was broken by 43rumors, which gives it an "FT5" probability rating — its highest level. And it comes after similarly high-probability rumors in July (which I missed) of a high-end Olympus model with a new sensor format. Since Olympus is also a Four Thirds company, it’s pretty compelling evidence for a new-size sensor.

At the other end, sports and wildlife shooters may find the slow 5 frames per second continuous rate with continuous autofocus troublesome. While it can shoot 8 fps in AF-S, that may not be practical for someone trying to capture fast-moving animals or athletes. 

The Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R and Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R will be $100 and $200, respectively. The Drop-in Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R arrives in February 2019 for $400 with a variable ND filter or $300 with a circular polarizing filter. There will also be a $200 matching flash, the Speedlite EL-100.

Maybe. Think about when they switched from FD to EOS, and then when IS was introduced, and then when digital sensors required higher resolving power (if you believe in that sort of thing). There are some lenses that will for sure hold (big white ones), but the other thing to consider, and why the values will hold for a while, is how long it would take for them to release all the equivalents in a new mount.

Fast lenses, for a lot of video shooting, become not very practical because your DOF becomes so shallow at say, F1.8 or even 2.8. I have nothing against FF as a format but when you use it for video, it can become a hindrance with FOV, focus and lens speed. Not insurmountable but an inconvenience if you come from the S35/APS-C/M43 world.
